India All Schools resources ATLAS, in partnership with Sliders-UK, established an active schools programme across Delhi, with a full time coach based at the Delhi Hurricanes. This project is now mature enough, with demonstrable positive impact on children's lives, that a number of other charities have commissioned coaching from the Hurricanes and expanded the rugby work across the city. The original programme worked with 800 children in 16 government and charity schools, and directly in the slums of Delhi. For many children this wass the only chance that they had to play. The children from the slums were not even allowed into the public park. Since the All Schools programme started, young people have been trained as young coaches and grown up and moved into paid work in the fitness industry and in responsible jobs. Some of the 800 children have also become established athletes, and representative rugby players, including for the Indian national teams. This project is currently under review to look at how we use its success to spread All Schools across India. Manage Cookie Preferences
