This is Akash, an Atlas funded coach who runs Khelo Rugby’s operations in Bangalore. Akash oversees the programme, which operates in disadvantaged communities and their schools. Most recently, Akash and his team have been working closely with Decathlon to develop their “Education to Employment” programme, which gets young adults work experience and employment alongside continuing their education.

Like all our partners, Khelo Rugby uses the game of rugby to engage and inspire children and then layers over health and wellbeing, education and lifeskills and gender equality and inclusion sessions, as well as providing nutritious food and clean water.

There has been some recent success for Akash, who has been selected to train with the Indian National Sevens Team in South Africa, ahead of the Asian 7’s tournament. In a special moment, Akash was presented with his India Shirt by his Mum, along with every player of the India Men’s and Women’s team, who had a parent flown out to present their jersey. This was truly a momentous occasion for Akash and it’s great to see his hard work and commitment to the sport, and his community, being recognised.

We’re so proud to have fantastic coaches like Akash onboard our team, making a difference to some of the world’s most disadvantaged children and giving them the opportunity to thrive.
