A trial run for a proper event next year.

12 'Rugby Rowers' rowed 20km from Shiplake College up to and including the famous Henley Regatta straight, followed by afternoon tea at the Leander Club. Most were reasonable rowers, but one former Welsh international prop was a complete beginner. Beer, Pimms and West Country cider are not normal athlete nutrition, but these were not normal athletes.

Lord Addington, Atlas Trustee, Prop and regular competitor in the Parliamentary Boat Race took the power seat at 4. Peter Rogers, formerly a Welsh Prop, took the 3 seat and a considerable amount of stick from bow pair.

Enormous thanks to Shiplake College for their brilliant support with boats, navigation, coaching, and good humour. Ian Howell and Keith Settle deserve a special name check. Thanks too to our willing volunteers for being guinea pigs.

And Debbie McGee for the wave 👋
