Esther Banda’s story begins with her interest in extracurricular activities at Jamo Secondary School. Though hesitant due to past experiences with HIV/AIDS learning clubs, Esther decides to join BPF’s Achinyamata Tikambilane club (“Let Youth Discuss” in English), curious about learning more about Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE).

As Esther engages with the club, she discovers a passion for making reusable sanitary pads. Despite doubts about her skills, she embraces the challenge and learns to create them herself, addressing concerns about menstrual poverty.

Through her determination, Esther not only manages her own menstrual hygiene but also becomes an entrepreneur, selling pads to her community. Empowered by her journey, Esther returns to her school and community, providing menstrual hygiene solutions and information. Through resilience and determination, Esther’s journey exemplifies the transformative power of seizing opportunities and making a difference.

“I hope my story inspires others to pursue positive change projects like mine.”
